Icons

Icons are to be used in many situations, but mainly they can be added to Print Templates.

Icon Manager

Allows to add, delete and preview icons to be used elsewhere in HDC.

Custom categories for icons

A user can define any number of categories (or "tags") that can be assigned to icons in the system.

Thanks to that, a quick filtering based on icon category can be done.

Icon categories administration

First step is to define categories in Administration panel, under Manage Icons - Categories section.

This is a dedicated system dictionary that can also be translated to other languages. (see Dictionaries for more information).

Use Add / Edit / Delete buttons to manage category entries.

Having a number of categories defined, they can be assigned under Icons section. Each icon can have multiple categories assigned.

Use the multi selection drop-down to select desired categories or review existing assignment. To remove a category assignment, use "X" button on the existing list.

Using categorised icons

A stamp/icon button is available in Draw tools (both for edit and redline modes).

Use the down arrow to show up an icon selection view.

From the icon selection view, select desired icon or apply category filter, selecting one or more category.

Icons that have any of the selected category assigned, will be listed. Select an icon from a filtered list and use Select button to confirm

From now on the selected icon is assigned to stamp/icon button. There is no need to re-select the icon,

simply use the button to insert the same icon as many times as needed. Use the arrow button again if the you want to change the icon.

The selection remains active as long as you remain in the same drawing and mode.

Add new icon

Click on New button to open up Upload Icon window.

Click on  to select icon file from your disc.
Icon name under it's added to HDC system is taken from uploaded file name and extension.

Icon requirements

There can be multiply icons with same name and content (or different content).
Icons by definition should be image files like .png, .jpeg etc. Accepted icons formats and size is defined by System Administrators in System Settings panel.

Delete icon

Select icon from the list and click on Delete button to delete icon from the system.

Icons that are being used by print templates cannot be deleted.

Set icon size as "fixed"

Icons can now be declared as having Fixed visible pixel size independently of actual viewing (zooming) scale.

  • Scaled Image Size - icon will adjust it's size to drawing units so it's stays the same in drawing units regardless of zoom (all icons were working this way before),

  • Fixed Image Size - icon will have always the same real pixel size regardless of zoom level.

On the screen below we have two icons. The one on the left from the square has Scaled image size. The one on the right has Fixed image size.
On given zoom level they seem to have same size:

But when we zoom out then the one with Fixed image size will seem to grow but in reality it's real pixel size will stay the same.
The Scale image size icon will become smaller in pixel size but will retain same size in drawing units.

If we then zoom in, Fixed image size icon will seems smaller but it's pixel size will still stay the same.

This parameter can be set when adding an icon to a drawing, on a Select Icon dialog:

or can be changed on existing icons from right-click context menu.Â
