Local Layers

Local layers

Private layers are only defined in a specific Vector Drawing by user for his own use or for sharing with other users.

Composite Drawing Manager enables managing local layers. Choose vector drawing in the left pane and than on the right pane, click on Layers tab.

You will only see your own layers and those that were shared with you by granting you at least View right to this layer.

This menu allows to:

  • creating own private layers,

  • editing private layers you have edit rights to,

  • deleting your own empty private layers,

  • sharing your layers with others (controlling permissions of private layers),

  • sharing default visibility of private layer on this specific drawing.

Layers on Overlay (vector) drawings re divided into:

  • Private

     - those layers can be edited here

  • Global

     - they are just listed here but cannot be edited in CDM.

Add new Layer

When adding a new layer, a number of properties can be selected and defined

  • Name: any name that will be visible in the interface as a layer name. Give it a meaningful name that reflects content of the layer.

  • Stroke section: these section contains settings for stroke (outline) that will be used by default for all shaped on this layer:

    • Color - a line color - use a picker or enter a HEX compatible value (https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_picker.asp)

    • Fixed width: if checked, the stroke line thickness will be fixed and expressed in real world units, e.g. 5 cm
Fixed line width will respond to zoom changes.

    • Width: a numeric representation of width

    • Units: either Drawing or one of the possible values

    • Opacity: the opacity of the color, as reflected on color window preview

  • Fill section: a section that allows to set both color and opacity for fill of the shape.

Taking ownership of layer

Requirement: Administrator with permissions: Manage Drawing Ownership and Manage Drawing Layer Ownership

Permissions for those can come of course from higher level assignment.

Usage

  1. When in Viewer, click on Manage button on Document Toolbar to open Composite Drawing Manager window.
In either Overlay or Redline list of layers Administrator with proper permissions will see all layers, even those without view permissions.

2. Click on Take Ownership button. This will make you owner of selected layer. You will also get proper rights (View and Edit) to this layer.

Having full control over layer, previous owner can be unassigned from all permissions if needed. Layer can be cleaned of spots and removed if needed as well.

This function is only for local/private overlay layers and for redline layers. Global Layers are not affected (there is no need for this).
