Local Layers

Local layers

Local Layers are specific to the drawing in which they are created.

Usually, its a good idea to use global layers as they organize content of drawings in a uniform way across the system.

Composite Drawing Manager enables managing local layers. Choose vector drawing in the left pane and than on the right pane, click on Layers tab.

Layer Visibility and Access

You can view layers that you created and layers that other users have shared with you (with at least "View" permissions).

Managing Private Layers

The layer management menu provides the following options:

  • Create new layers for your personal use

  • Modify layers where you have editing permissions

  • Remove empty private layers you own

  • Set sharing permissions for your private layers

  • Configure default layer visibility settings for specific drawings

Layer Types in Overlay Drawings

Overlay (vector) drawings contain two types of layers:

  1. Private Layers

    • Properties can be edited directly in the Drawing Manager, including layer settings, content, and permissions

  2. Global Layers

    • Properties can only be modified through the Administration Panel, including settings like visibility and user access rights

    • Cannot be edited in the Drawing Manager

Let me help create a clearer, more user-friendly description for adding a new layer in FM ACCESS.

Adding a New Layer

A layer in FM ACCESS helps organize and style different elements of your drawings. When creating a new layer, you can configure several properties to control its appearance and behavior.

Layer Name

Enter a descriptive name that clearly identifies the layer's content. This name will be displayed in the interface and should help users quickly understand what elements the layer contains.

Stroke Properties

The stroke settings control how outlines appear for all shapes on this layer:

  • Color: Choose the line color using either:

    • The color picker tool

    • A HEX color code

  • Fixed Width: Enable this option to maintain consistent line thickness regardless of zoom level

    • When enabled, the width is measured in real-world units (e.g., centimeters)

    • When disabled, the width scales with the drawing's zoom level

  • Width: Specify the numerical value for line thickness

  • Units: Select from:

    • Drawing units

    • Other available measurement units

  • Opacity: Adjust the transparency level of the stroke color

Fill Properties

Control how shapes are filled on this layer:

  • Color: Select the fill color

  • Opacity: Set the transparency level of the fill

Each of these settings will apply as default properties to all shapes created on the layer, ensuring consistent styling across your drawings.
